The presence of humidity in your home can be annoying, smelly, and bring tons of problems with it (for example, mold!). Plus, if it isn’t treated on time, it can seriously mess up your house and all the items in it.

If you’re noticing an increase in humidity, it’s better to act sooner rather than later. But if you’re not sure on how to get rid of humidity at home, don’t worry! Zott Construction in Stormville is here to your rescue!

Dehumidify your Home!

Check Cracks, Fractures, and Leaks

Humidity can be an indication of cracks in your walls and ceilings, or leaks in your pipes! If your moisture problem has gotten worse all of a sudden, get an expert to check it out and fix it!

While you’re at it, insulate your home and make sure your windows and doors aren’t letting moisture from the outside.

Ventilate

Open windows, doors, and let the air move through your home. If the humidity is enclosed, it can cause bigger problems, so remember to keep everything ventilated as much as possible.

Place Rice in Closed Spaces

Drawers, closets and other small, closed places can build up a lot of humidity, which can cause your belongings to get that musty smell. Take a bunch of rice, place it in a mesh-like bag, and put it in those tight spaces! Replace it every couple of weeks to keep your items fresh.

Sprinkle Baking Soda

Baking soda is great to absorb moisture (and stink) out of upholstery, carpets, and rugs. Sprinkle a generous amount, let it sit for a couple of hours, and vacuum it up to get rid of humidity!

Watch Your Showers

The bathroom is the most mold-prone spot in your home. The thing is, when you take a shower with steaming hot water, you’re making the problem worse. Take shorter, warm showers instead!

Get a Dehumidifier

If the problem is severe, you may need to get a dehumidifier to keep your home dry. Place it in especially damaged areas to get the humidity out once and for all!
