The most recent disaster in the memory of America took place in 2012; when Hurricane Sandy, which was the biggest Atlantic storm in history, arrived to the east coast. Leaving behind it traces of destruction in the Caribbean and America. It lalso left billions of dollars in damages and several human losses.

Because you never know what the hurricane season may bring. The DKI Zott Construction in Stormville, has created a list of things you have to do to protect your house before a hurricane arrives.

Rememeber this tips before the landfall:

Secure Doors and Windows

Impact resistant windows are your best choice, during the hurricane there is a great chance that your windows break allowing rain and wind into your home that will create pressure to the roof! Remember that tape is not a great idea, it may only prevent shattered glass but it will not protect your home at all.

Also make sure to anchor your door frames to a wall framing and if you have gravel in your garden make sure to remove it!

Garage Doors

An often neglected part of the house is the garage, it is a weak spot of your house and if during a storm you lose it, you will be in big trouble. Try to get a door that’s less than 9 feet and that has no windows, otherwise you will have to reinforce it!

Use hurricane straps to secure your roof! Also make sure your tiles are properly attached they are potential dangerous projectiles.

Hurricane Sandy reminded us how powerful the forces of nature can be, and that the damage to our properties is a proof of it.
