When it comes to protecting your home, you’ve surely thought of the aspects that have to do with safety and emergencies, such as how to  identifying a gas leak and what to do in case of fire or other need to evacuate the home. However, you will also do well to consider what you can do to protect your home from the natural wear and tear of the seasons. It is with that in mind that Zott Construction DKI in water damage in Stormville would like to provide you with a few tips on how to get your home ready for spring and springtime weather.

Just as you should have done in the fall, you’ll want to check the caulk and weather stripping around your windows and doors. Whereas before you were checking to ensure you didn’t have cold and drafty areas during the winter months, now you’ll be ensuring that you don’t have areas where the air inside of your home is able to escape, and where the spring rain is able to enter.

Likewise, you’ll want to check the trim around windows and doors and your siding. The purpose here will be to make sure these areas are secured to the home so as not to permit rainwater from entering between the boards and the home. You don’t want to discover this after the rain has begun and have the need to replace the wood.

Check around the yard to see if there are any low areas that may become a problem when it rains. Specifically, you should be looking for any low spots around the foundation of the home. If you find any areas like this you will want to fill them with compact soil as soon as possible. Especially around the foundation, remember that sitting water could cause damage and or cracks.

While you’re looking for these low areas, you’ll also do well to check for existing cracks in your foundation and get those fixed before they become an even larger problem. Remember that repairing your foundation entirely can be an extremely expensive process.

While you’re checking your home for spring and working on repairs that need to be made, it’s possible that you’ll come across damage you weren’t expecting. If you find something that you think is too big of a job for you, remember that Zott Construction DKI is here to help you with fire and water damage in Stormville. Give us a call today to see how we can best assist you, (845) 227-4141.
