We already talked to you about how to deal with a house fire aftermath, but there is one simple thing to prevent this situation: checking your fire alarms.

This procedure takes less than ten minutes and it will prevent a lot of problems. At the Zott Construction DKI in Stormville, your safety is our number one priority, that’s why we tell you how to test your fire alarms.

Tell your Family Members

Before your push the test button, explain your family what you are about to do. It will also help them to know the sound the alarm produces.

Once a Month

Now that your family is prepared for the drill, push the test button. Remember that there are two types of fire alarms: battery operated and AC-powered. If you own a battery operated alarm, you will have to check the batteries are working; if you push the button and you don’t hear anything, it’s time to replace the batteries.

Every Six Months...

The fact that your smoke alarms sounds, doesn’t mean it will detect smoke. To test it,  you can  light a few matches together, blowing them out and allow the smoke reach the unit. You can also use a smoke detector aerosol.

Fire Drills

Another way to be prepared for a house fire are drills, make sure to plan them with your family. You should conduct a drill once every month at random times. Keep in mind, that dust and other external factors can damage your smoke detectors; replace them every ten years.

These simple recommendations will prevent a house fire, that could have dreadful consequences. If your home doesn’t have smoke detectors, consider installing them as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, bad things can happen. If you are in an unlucky circumstance, the Zott Construction team is ready for you. Our employees are trained to handle any disaster situation, so think about us, next time you are looking for property restoration in Stormville.
