A wet carpet can be troubling since it could lead to mold growth and water damage. Learn how to dry your carpet effectively through the post below.

How to Dry Your Carpet Effectively

  1. First, leave everything you're doing and tend to the problem fast. The more you wait to dry your carpet, the more the liquid will seep into the carpet's padding, which is harder to dry.
  2. Grab a clean towel or cloth and absorb the extra moisture. Dab the area repeatedly to lift as much as you can. But avoid rubbing the area, as this could make the problem worse.
  3. The next step is to let the padding breathe. It's poorly ventilated and more prone to mold growth. If you suspect the liquid reached the padding, lift the outer layer to expose it.
  4. Now, you have to help the air move and ventilate the space. To make that happen, turn on fans, the AC, and/or open windows and doors so that the carpet dries faster.
  5. It's a good idea to restrict access to the damaged area. Tell family and friends to avoid stepping on it so that they won't interfere with the drying process. Set a perimeter if necessary.
  6. Finally, if the carpet smells like humidity after it's dried, you can use baking soda to get rid of the scent. Sprinkle a good amount on your carpeting and let it absorb the odor for a few hours. Afterward, vacuum it up to reveal a fresh-smelling floor.
