How to Clean and Keep the Outdoor of Your Home Safe

Not only is it important to keep your home looking good for its appearance, but it can also prevent many common dangers. Below is a great post from Zott Construction DKI in Stormville with tips to help.

Guttering

The first place to start is with your gutters. As these become filled with natural debris, these items dry out in the sun, posing a serious fire risk. The easiest way to prevent this is to safely climb up to your gutters and, using your hands or a small tool, clear away all of the debris stuck in your guttering system. Once you are sure it is all clear, use your hose to run water through the system and, if the water comes out of your drainpipe unobstructed, then the job is complete.

Outdoor Power

If you have any outdoor appliances such as string lights, flood lights, or even outdoor power sockets, then it’s important to keep an eye on their condition. Even though they are designed for use outdoors, they are not impervious to damage. During the day when the sun is bright, take a tour of the exterior of your home and inspect the condition of any electrical sockets or items. If you can see any frayed cords, wires, or water damage, use your mains to switch off power to the area and ensure it is repaired.

Slippery Surfaces

It doesn’t have to be raining for somebody to slip when enjoying your outdoor space, such as a decked porch or dining space. With this in mind, look at the condition of these areas and, if you can see that your current non-slip coating is peeling back or has worn, replace it before entertaining again.
